First Year CHARMS-Lesson 1

Welcome to your first Charms Class, First Years!! I am Professor Danie, and I will be teaching you Charms until you graduate. As this is our first lesson this term, I'd like to stress on the importance of Charms in the training of future wizards and witches like yourselves. I hope that you will all enjoy Charms and make the best efforts you can in this class...

Alright then, let's get started! You are going to learn two simple spells today. But before we get to the casting, I need you all to remember a few important rules, when it comes to casting spells.
  1. Always say the incantation clearly
  2. Always concentrate on your objective through the spell
  3. Always Swish and Flick! The wand movement is very important whilst casting a spell

Keep these simple rules in mind, because they are inevitable, however simple they may be. Now that you have these pointers in mind, you are ready to learn our first two spells for this term! Today I'll be teaching you the spells Lumos and Nox .

Lumos:

This spell will allow a beam of light to shine from the tip of your wand, if cast succesfully of course. All you have to do is point your wand upward and say the incantation clearly . I'll demonstrate. **Points wand and says "LUMOS"** There now, it's shining. **observes beam affectionately** Come on everyone! draw your wands and try that spell!
[...] Well done, students. Now let's move on to the second spell.

Nox:

As you've all seen, Lumos lights up your wand. But to unlight your wand, you don't just blow it like a candle. Nox is the spell that turns off that shiny beam on your wand. The wand movement here is just as simple as the first one. Now, have a go at it everyone!
[...] Splendid work, all of you!

That was a good start, I believe this class is going to be particularily good! Now go check out your assignment on the right, and don't forget to submit it on time. Have a nice week!

For your assignment, I want you to give me 4 possible situations in which you'll need these 2 spells (2 situations for each spell).
